About the position

Battelle's Critical Infrastructure Business Line group is seeking a Junior Test Engineer to support the research, development, test, and evaluation of security systems and technology for the Department of Homeland Security. This full-time position is located in Battelle's Crystal City Operations in Arlington, Virginia. The selected candidate will play a crucial role in assisting test engineers with various tasks, including test planning, executing test methodologies, collecting and analyzing data, and writing technical reports. The technical areas of focus will include non-intrusive inspection, physical security applications, command and control integration, human factors, operations research, statistics, and engineering. In addition to the primary responsibilities, the Junior Test Engineer will support engineering design reviews and engage with representatives of Integrated Product Teams (IPTs). The role requires direct interaction with vendors and stakeholders to enhance technologies and capabilities throughout the developmental lifecycle. A solid understanding of ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems is essential for this position. The work environment will involve both fieldwork and laboratory settings, necessitating strong oral and written communication skills, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Responsibilities

  • Support test engineers in test planning and execution methodology.
  • Conduct data collection, reduction, and analysis.
  • Write technical reports based on test results and findings.
  • Assist in engineering design reviews.
  • Engage with Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) and vendors to enhance technologies.
  • Interact directly with clients on a regular basis.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or physics from an accredited college or university.
  • Ability to travel up to 25%.
  • Self-starter and team player.
  • Sole US Citizenship with eligibility and willingness to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret Security Clearance and TSA Security Suitability.

Nice-to-haves

  • Possess a DOD Secret Security Clearance.
  • Possess TSA Security Suitability.
  • Experience in the test and evaluation of Transportation Security Equipment (TSA).
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001:2015.
