About the position
The Junior Truss Designer is an entry-level position focused on learning to design roof and floor trusses for production according to client specifications. This role involves utilizing design software, assisting in customer communication, and supporting senior designers while adhering to company standards and safety protocols.
Responsibilities
- Design roof and floor trusses using MiTek software, ensuring accuracy and optimization.
- Assist in communication with customers to provide accurate truss designs.
- Generate and provide accurate pricing and material quantities for estimating purposes.
- Help design trusses for production and generate truss placement layouts for construction.
- Develop skills in reading and interpreting architectural and structural blueprints.
- Support the design manager and senior designers in their responsibilities under tight deadlines.
- Learn best practices and design work from senior designers.
- Provide job-site support when requested, assisting the sales department.
- Attend and participate in all company-sponsored training programs as required.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and company policies.
Requirements
- Associate's Degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 0 - 3 years experience in the truss and construction industry, with some experience preferred.
- Basic knowledge of floor and roof truss design processes.
- Ability to learn to read and interpret architectural and structural blueprints.
- Knowledge of current local codes associated with truss design and wood framing.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple jobs simultaneously and maintain organized workflow.
- Demonstrate initiative and reliability.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience using MiTek, Alpine, InteliBuild, or ITW software preferred.
