Junior Web Developer (Remote)

About the position

GovCIO is seeking a highly motivated Junior Web Developer with a focus on UI/UX and Human Centered Design (HCD) to enhance web-based interfaces and business dashboards. This fully remote position requires collaboration with clients and stakeholders to translate business needs into technical specifications, while also providing design guidance and mockups. The role emphasizes the application of innovative methodologies and best practices in web development, particularly in analytics and data visualization.

Responsibilities

• Designs web page layout, graphics, color schemes, and infrastructure to maintain a cohesive brand.
• Conceptualizes, designs, and implements a web-based user interface based on current technologies and requirements.
• Collaborates with clients and stakeholders to determine the purpose, functions, and requirements of applications or dashboards.
• Translates business needs into technical specifications for development teams.
• Provides overall visual experience guidance and standards for projects.
• Advocates for HCD and Design Thinking in contract deliverables.
• Conducts presentations and education on HCD/Design Thinking benefits.
• Designs data visualization solutions and creates mockups and use cases.
• Conducts unit testing and troubleshooting of developed solutions.
• Evaluates and improves existing data visualization systems.
• Designs visualizations and reports that comply with accessibility regulations.
• Creates and updates technical documentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics, Science, Technology, or related fields with 0-2 years of experience.
• Ability to achieve Sustainability/Public Trust clearance.
• Proven experience in Data Visualization, Software, or Business Intelligence Design.
• 1 year experience in a programming language (Preferred: Python, JavaScript, DAX, SQL, or R).
• Understanding of HTML Box Model and CSS layout controls.
• Strong verbal communication and collaboration skills.
• Experience with Agile Methodology.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with conceptual, logical, and physical UI form and dashboard mockups.
• Experience with CSS and mockup tools like Axure or equivalent.
• 1 year experience in a front-end framework (Preferred: React or Vue).
• Familiarity with BI technologies (e.g. Microsoft Power BI, Oracle BI).
• Knowledge of SQL queries and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
• Background in data warehouse design and data mining.
