About the position

The Justice Program Grant Manager is responsible for the administrative and programmatic oversight of federal grant programs available to the Nebraska Commission on Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice. This role involves managing grant activities, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, and serving as the primary contact for grant authorities. The position plays a crucial role in supporting law enforcement initiatives and other criminal justice programs through effective grant management and stakeholder engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and participate in various phases of the grant management process, including application, monitoring, and budgeting of funds.
  • Provide technical assistance to agency staff in proposing projects and developing legal and financial support documents.
  • Review statutes, rules, and regulations associated with agency projects to determine their application to fiscal and grants management practices.
  • Plan audit procedures and review budgets to ensure efficient use of funds.
  • Assist grant recipients with information regarding federally funded activities and in writing extensive activity and progress reports.
  • Monitor payments to grant providers/recipients to ensure proper allocation/distribution of funds.
  • Assist with the development of contracts and other mechanisms used by project managers to manage state and federal funds.
  • Participate in site reviews to examine compliance with appropriate statutes, rules, and regulations.
  • Prepare special reports as requested by agency management to monitor grants and examine compliance with appropriate statutes, rules, and regulations.
  • Assist in the coordination of advisory boards, funding panels, and other boards as necessary for the awarding and managing of grant funds.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED plus four years of work experience significantly related to the position's function; or a Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, or other appropriate curriculum; or a combination of education and experience equivalent to the above requirements.
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, or other appropriate curriculum, plus two years of significantly related work experience, or a combination of education and experience equivalent to the above requirements.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience understanding, implementing, explaining, and applying complex rules and regulations and laws.
  • Prior grant management experience is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with federal grants; experience with programs and services related to criminal justice, law enforcement, and services that support crime victims and survivors.
