About the position

The Juvenile Corrections Officer is responsible for ensuring the security, rehabilitation, and maintenance of a forty-bed facility for juvenile residents. This part-time role involves working directly with adolescents, maintaining order, and providing program services to support their rehabilitation. The officer must be able to work with both male and female residents and be prepared to handle various situations that may arise within the facility.

Responsibilities

• Search each child upon admission and at other times as per manual guidelines.
• Check all security devices at least once during each shift.
• Maintain a current count of residents.
• Report any breaches or potential breaches to the Supervisor immediately.
• Move residents through their daily schedule in a timely manner.
• Maintain order and discipline according to the manual.
• Monitor individual activities and counsel both groups and individuals.
• Present a positive role model and maintain respect as an authority figure.
• Administer the Levels Programs firmly and fairly.
• Supervise residents during cleaning and maintenance activities.
• Dispense materials needed for the maintenance program and keep an ongoing schedule of maintenance.

Requirements

• Ability to work with disturbed adolescents.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to get along with other staff, supervisors, and the public.
• Willingness to work with male and female residents interchangeably.
• Good physical condition to restrain out-of-control residents safely.
• Possess a valid driver's license.
• Ability to pass a drug screen and criminal background check.
