About the position

The Juvenile Justice Counselor 1 position is an on-call, non-permanent role based in Nome, Alaska, focused on ensuring the security of youth awaiting transport to juvenile detention facilities. The counselor will work various shifts, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, and may also perform escorts to other facilities within and outside of Alaska. This role is integral to the mission of promoting restorative justice and supporting youth and their families.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the security of youth awaiting transport to juvenile detention facilities during assigned shifts.
  • Perform escorts from Nome to other youth facilities and residential treatment centers in and out of Alaska.
  • Work on-call and sporadically, covering shifts at various times of day, including weekends and holidays.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or GED.
  • Must be 20 years of age or older.
  • A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment.
  • Successful candidates must pass a comprehensive background investigation, including a state and FBI fingerprint-based background check.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with youth or in a counseling role.
  • Knowledge of restorative justice principles and practices.
