About The Position

The Juvenile Probation Officer is responsible for analyzing and screening cases referred to the Lubbock County Juvenile Justice Center. This role involves providing services and supervision to assigned juveniles and their families, ensuring compliance with court orders, and developing individualized treatment plans to promote accountability and rehabilitation. The officer will monitor juveniles, conduct assessments, and collaborate with various service agencies to meet the needs of the youth under their supervision.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • One year of graduate study in criminology, corrections, counseling, law, social work, psychology, sociology, or related field, or one year of full-time casework experience in a relevant agency.
  • Knowledge of Texas Family Code Title III, Texas Penal Code, and Texas Juvenile Probation Standards.
  • Ability to utilize a personal computer and work independently.
  • Effective public speaking and communication skills.

  • Child Development Associate Certification
  • Experience in community corrections or juvenile agency work.

Responsibilities

  • Receive assigned incoming juvenile referrals and make personal contact with the juvenile within 5 working days.
  • Determine appropriate action for each referral based on case facts, child's history, and departmental policy.
  • Refer juveniles to appropriate service agencies within 2 weeks of determining needs.
  • Maintain current, accurate statistical information on caseworker system regarding each child.
  • Conduct initial interviews within 10 working days of receiving assigned cases and complete required paperwork.
  • Complete individual case plans and CSE-IT on all official probationers within 30 working days of case disposition.
  • Reassess individual case/program plans every 30 days or when there is a change in needs.
  • Conduct Case Plan Reviews within 15 calendar days after a child's probation is modified.
  • Provide counseling, crisis intervention, and assessment/referral to all youths and families as needed.
  • File violations of probation and new referrals with the Criminal District Attorney's office in a timely manner.
  • Take juveniles into custody according to policy and utilize non-violent physical restraint methods when necessary.
  • Prepare necessary paperwork for Administrative Hearings and present material as required.
