About the position

The K-12 Virtual School Assistant Principal plays a crucial role in supporting the K-12 Virtual Principal in the administration of the virtual school. This position is designed to ensure that the educational well-being of each student is prioritized and that the instructional planning and implementation of grade-appropriate content standards are effectively facilitated. The Assistant Principal will be responsible for utilizing best technological practices to meet the diverse needs of all virtual learners. This role requires a proactive approach to managing various administrative tasks, ensuring that the principal can focus on their primary responsibilities. In addition to assisting with routine administrative duties, the Assistant Principal will serve as the principal in their absence, ensuring continuity in leadership. They will collaborate with department heads and faculty to compile annual budget requests and work closely with school counselors to develop individualized schedules for students. Regular communication with Technology Integration Coaches is essential to maintain proficiency in the technology and instructional platforms used in the virtual setting. Monitoring student attendance and participation is a key responsibility, along with implementing interventions to support student success. The Assistant Principal will analyze data to determine appropriate interventions and track student progress, facilitating regular instructional planning sessions with teachers to align instruction with rigorous standards. They will also coordinate testing schedules and ensure that special education and general education teachers work collaboratively to support student learning. The role includes delivering staff development and specialized training, monitoring local and state data to inform instructional decisions, and providing training and support for learning mentors and parents. The Assistant Principal will also manage the requisition of supplies and equipment, supervise virtual support staff, and conduct safety inspections. This position requires a strong commitment to fostering a positive virtual learning environment and maintaining effective communication with all stakeholders, including students, parents, and community groups.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the principal in the overall administration of the virtual school.
  • Serve as principal in the absence of the regular principal.
  • Work with department heads and faculty in compiling the annual budget requests.
  • Collaborate with school counselors to develop a working schedule for each student.
  • Counsel with Technology Integration Coaches to maintain knowledge of technology and instructional platforms.
  • Monitor student attendance and participation in the virtual setting.
  • Implement interventions to assist students in being successful in the virtual setting.
  • Monitor and analyze data to determine Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions and track student progress.
  • Coordinate regular grade level or content area instructional planning sessions.
  • Work directly with Curriculum Consulting Teachers and teachers to align instruction with standards.
  • Facilitate regular data chats with special education teachers to ensure progress toward IEP goals.
  • Serve as testing coordinator and schedule the administration of assessments.
  • Facilitate planning for special education and general education teachers.
  • Assist in the delivery of staff development or specialized training for teachers or staff.
  • Monitor and analyze local and state data to make instructional decisions.
  • Prepare and implement training and support for learning mentors and parents.
  • Requisition supplies, textbooks, and equipment; conduct inventories and maintain records.
  • Coordinate distribution of student supplies based on needs.
  • Supervise and guide virtual support staff to meet student needs.
  • Conduct safety inspections and safety drill practice activities.
  • Serve as coordinator of all technology needs such as repairs and training.
  • Work with community groups such as PTO and business partnerships.
  • Assist with conducting internet safety training for students and staff.
  • Maintain discipline in the virtual setting and address special cases as needed.
  • Counsel with students, parents, and staff as necessary.
  • Perform record-keeping functions as assigned by the principal.
  • Visit classrooms to observe and assist in evaluation of teachers and students.
  • Monitor the effect of school practices on student learning.
  • Provide conceptual guidance for teachers regarding effective classroom practice.

Requirements

  • Master's degree with valid Tennessee teaching certification with administrator K-12 endorsement.
  • Minimum three years successful classroom teaching experience.
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in written form to communities, supervisors, and employees.
  • High-level interpersonal skills to maintain effective relationships.
  • Problem-solving, planning, supervising, organizing, and scheduling skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive personnel matters professionally.
  • Administrative responsibility to plan, assign, supervise, and review work of employees.

Nice-to-haves
