About the position
The K-2 Mild/Moderate Cluster Special Education Teacher is responsible for providing high-quality instruction and support to diverse learners in an urban school setting. This role involves collaborating with various stakeholders to create individualized education plans (IEPs) that meet the unique needs of students, ensuring their academic and social success. The teacher will foster a respectful and inclusive classroom environment that values diversity and promotes effective learning.
Responsibilities
- Instruct and track the progress of all students in assigned classes.
- Set achievable goals for individualized education plans (IEPs) in accordance with state guidelines.
- Collaborate with case managers, counselors, and general education teachers to address students' instructional and social needs.
- Create a respectful classroom culture that promotes effective learning and manages student behaviors.
- Design engaging classroom instruction with appropriately challenging questions and aligned assessments.
- Exhibit excellent communication skills and professional judgment in interactions with administration, colleagues, families, and students.
- Implement the Student Code of Conduct and school-wide management systems to prioritize student safety.
- Utilize curriculum supplements and technology resources to personalize student learning.
- Advocate for the district's vision and commit to themes of equity and cultural competence.
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
- A valid teaching license issued by the Illinois State Board of Education, endorsed in LBS1.
- Completion of the CPS online application and teaching profile.
