About The Position

The Fleet Manager for the North Texas Fleet Operations Division is responsible for coordinating and managing the fleet of vehicles and equipment used by internal District and Division customers. This role ensures that the fleet operations support the Texas Department of Transportation's mission, including emergency response operations, while overseeing repair operations across multiple locations. The Fleet Manager will lead a team of Shop Equipment Supervisors and work closely with various stakeholders to meet fleet and customer service goals.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and manages Fleet Operations Division vehicles and equipment for internal District and Division customers.
  • Ensures support of TxDOT mission including emergency response operations.
  • Oversees district shop equipment repair operations at several locations across northern and central Texas.
  • Directs reports (Shop Equipment Supervisors) to ensure fleet and customer service goals are met.
  • Works with Fleet Operations Section Director to determine rental and purchasing budget priorities.
  • Collaborates with peers, district engineers, or division directors to conduct operations consistently statewide.
  • Establishes own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives.
  • Manages equipment utilization based on metrics.
  • Monitors equipment capital budgets and equipment operating budgets.
  • Manages geographically separated equipment repair shops and their associated employees.
  • Ensures equipment shops utilize fleet applications, tools, and support appropriately.
  • Regularly visits and confers with fleet personnel on fleet program effectiveness and makes improvements based on findings.
  • Works with Fleet Strategy and Analytics team to develop and review fleet performance metrics and KPIs.
  • Collaborates with Fleet Operations Section Director and peers to review and develop equipment specifications.
  • Identifies gaps in QA analysis with the Fleet Support Manager and peers.
  • Attends District or Division management meetings to understand customer operational needs and assist in resolving fleet issues.
