About the position

ABC7 Los Angeles is seeking a freelance Newscast Director to oversee technical aspects of live news and local productions. The role involves collaboration with producers, reporters, and technical staff to ensure smooth execution of newscasts while maintaining a positive and proactive attitude.

Responsibilities

• Direct all technical aspects of live production using Ross Overdrive and Smart Shell camera control systems.
• Work directly with producers, reporters, and technical staff including playback editing, transmission, master control, and engineering.
• Ensure clean execution of newscasts while maintaining a positive attitude.
• Direct or stage manage any assigned live newscast, webcast, or post-production as needed.
• Maintain production studio and control room.

Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of major market experience in a similar role.
• High school diploma or GED required; college degree preferred.
• Working experience with Ross Overdrive and DALET Newsroom systems.
• Strong sense of newscast structure and hands-on experience in a computer-assisted environment.
• Exceptional organizational skills and ability to work under pressure.

• Knowledge of Dalet, Xpression, and Ross switchers.
• Strong organizational skills and self-motivation.
• Good visual sense and ability to give clear direction to crew under pressure.
