About the position

The Content Creator Intern will be responsible for leading research and storytelling efforts around the ongoing collaboration between Ferris State University and Disability Advocates of Kent County (DAKC) that's focused on cultivating experience with, expertise in, and applications of inclusive design principles and strategies at Kendall College of Art and Design (KCAD). Through researching the existing landscape of inclusive design, observing work sessions and other interactions between DAKC and KCAD students/faculty/staff/alumni, and interviewing both internal participants and external stakeholders involved in the collaboration, this role will work to uncover a wide variety of compelling narratives that they'll then amplify through the creation of compelling and timely written, graphical, and photo/video content. These are temporary positions that will run from January of 2025 through May of 2025, during which time each Content Creator Intern will work a maximum of 100 hours at a pay rate of $14/hour.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research into the principles and process of inclusive design, the historical trajectory of the field, pertinent real-world case studies of inclusive design solutions in action, and current barriers to realizing inclusive design goals.
  • Attend and observe interactions between KCAD students/faculty/staff and DAKC participants, such as classroom visits, community engagement sessions, project presentations/critiques, prototyping sessions, and more.
  • Synthesize research, observation, and interviews into storytelling opportunities and then leverage them by creating media including press releases/media pitches, news/blog articles, photographs, videos, info-graphics, and social media content.
  • Refine created media based on feedback from collaboration participants, DAKC representatives, and the University Advancement and Marketing team.

Requirements

  • A healthy interest in inclusive design
  • Expertise in at least one of the following areas: Graphic Design, Copy-writing and/or Journalism, Photography (shooting and editing), Videography (shooting and editing)
  • Well-developed written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong working knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, and Premiere Pro
  • Comfortability with conducting conversational interviews (in person or virtually)
  • Strong collaborative skills combined with the ability to work independently
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Eligibility to drive for the University, subject to a motor vehicle report review.
