About the position

The Automation Engineer at Kennedy Valve will play a pivotal role in enhancing production efficiency through innovative strategies and effective project management. This position requires a comprehensive understanding of manufacturing processes and automation technologies. The engineer will be responsible for evaluating and validating outcomes that lead to sustainable business improvements. This includes proving feasibility and creating actionable plans that align with the company's goals for innovation and design. The role emphasizes the importance of tactical planning and implementation, ensuring that all projects are completed within budgetary constraints while meeting the high standards set by Kennedy Valve. In this capacity, the Automation Engineer will coordinate with various stakeholders to design, manage, and implement manufacturing production projects. This involves leading the team in the study and application of best automation practices, particularly in the realm of Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) programming. The engineer will also be tasked with implementing machine vision solutions to automate robotics and inspection processes, thereby enhancing the overall efficiency of CNC machining operations. Collaboration with Production Management, Engineering, and Quality Assurance teams is essential for driving continual improvements across the manufacturing floor. Additionally, the Automation Engineer will engage with Engineering Student Work programs, providing mentorship and guidance through project studies and implementation opportunities. This role may also involve working closely with the Finishing and Foundry departments, further broadening the engineer's impact within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and effectively communicate with stakeholders to design, manage, plan, procure, and implement manufacturing production projects.
  • Lead the team in the study and implementation of best automation practices.
  • Be a leader in Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) programming, implementation, and debugging.
  • Implement machine vision solutions for automation of robotics and inspection processes.
  • Work closely with Production Management, Engineering, and Quality Assurance towards continual improvements in CNC machining operations.
  • Conduct manufacturing floor layout and simulations.
  • Teach and coach Engineering Student Work programs through project study and implementation opportunities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Technology or a related field preferred.
  • Previous experience in project management within a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Proficiency in applicable engineering software (i.e., SolidWorks and/or other CAD Software).
  • Experience with automation simulation software (i.e., Roboguide, Simio, Keyence simulation software, etc.).
  • Robotic language writing and communication skills, primarily with Fanuc Handling Tool.
  • Experience creating custom PLC programs from scratch as well as modifying and debugging existing programs, preferably with Allen Bradley PLC.
  • Experience with machine vision including Fanuc 2D, Fanuc 3DV, Keyence 2D, and Keyence 3D and Bin Picking.
