About the position
Happy Tails is seeking an experienced individual to take on the role of Kennel Lead/Bather at our busy pet boarding and doggie daycare facility located in San Luis Obispo, CA. This full-time position offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from $19 to $24, depending on experience and work ethic, with additional opportunities for tips and bath commissions that can add another $3 per hour. The ideal candidate must have at least one year of professional experience working with dogs, which can include previous kennel work, veterinary technician roles, or dog grooming. This position is not limited to Monday through Friday; candidates must be available to work on weekends and holidays, specifically Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's, with a requirement to work at least two of the three holidays. As a Kennel Lead/Bather, you will be responsible for leading a team in providing exceptional care for our canine guests. This includes feeding and caring for dogs, bathing them, cleaning kennels and yards, and ensuring the safety of pets during socialization. The role requires a mature individual with a positive attitude who can work effectively in a team setting. Once fully trained, this position will evolve to include management duties, making it a great opportunity for those looking to advance in their careers within the animal care industry. Candidates must possess a strong understanding of dog behavior and socialization, as well as basic veterinary skills. Attention to detail is crucial, as is the ability to handle dogs of all sizes. Typical working hours start at 7 am during the week and 8 am on weekends, with closing times at 6 pm nightly. We offer a variety of shifts to accommodate our staff's needs.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team in providing care for dogs in a kennel environment.
- Feed and care for dogs, ensuring their health and well-being.
- Bathe dogs and maintain cleanliness of the facility, including kennels and yards.
- Observe and supervise dog socialization to ensure safety and proper behavior.
- Interact with clients in a professional manner, addressing their needs and concerns.
- Understand and follow oral and written directions from management.
- Work independently and collaboratively with co-workers to maintain a positive work environment.
- Handle dogs of various sizes and temperaments, ensuring safety for both the animals and staff.
Requirements
- At least one year of experience working with dogs in a professional setting (kennel, veterinary technician, or dog grooming).
- Knowledge of dog behavior and socialization techniques.
- Basic veterinary skills and understanding of animal care practices.
- Ability to lift and carry at least 30 lbs.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow directions.
