About the position

As a Splicer on the construction team at WindStream Communications, you will be responsible for splicing fiber optic and copper cables in various settings. This role involves maintaining safety protocols, managing project timelines, and ensuring accurate documentation of splicing activities. You will work with cutting-edge technology to support the company's mission of delivering reliable internet services.

Responsibilities

• Splice cables using hand tools, epoxy, or mechanical equipment as required.
• Splice fiber optic and copper cables including both loose tube and ribbon optic cables.
• Construct a proper splice case, including grounding, bonding, isolation, slack storage, and sealing.
• Prepare and maintain splicing records, schematics, and diagrams.
• Interpret staking sheets and blueprints.
• Perform work in accordance with industry standards and safety procedures.
• Prepare engineering field notes and interpret telecom facilities in records and maps.
• Make recommendations for changes in construction methodologies.
• Participate in engineering, permit, and construction processes to support project contracts.
• Measure signal strength at utility poles using electronic test equipment.
• Inspect or test lines or cables, recording and analyzing test results.
• Perform routine maintenance and recognize route issues.

Requirements

• Ability to lift/push/pull up to 75 pounds.
• Ability to work in all weather conditions, year-round.
• Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights.
• Ability to work an on-call schedule including days/nights/overnights/weekends/holidays/overtime.
• Valid driver's license and ability to obtain a CDL post-hire.
• Ability to pass DOT certification pre-hire.
• Exceptional time-management and attention to detail.

Nice-to-haves

• Pole climbing experience.
• OSHA 10 Hour Safety Course and Buck Squeeze certifications.
• Proficient at operating various construction equipment.
