About the position

The Kids Instructor plays a vital role in providing high-quality educational and fitness programming for children aged three months to 11 years at the Kids Academy. This position involves organizing, instructing, and implementing a variety of safe, fun, and engaging activities and games that promote the cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development of children. The Kids Instructor is responsible for creating a welcoming environment where children can learn and play, ensuring that all activities are conducted in accordance with the Kids Academy Schedule. Additionally, Kids Instructors may host parties and other special events, further enriching the experience for children and their families. In this role, the Kids Instructor greets and interacts with members and guests in a friendly and professional manner, fostering a positive atmosphere. They prepare and set up for classes, ensuring that all necessary materials and equipment are ready for use. Monitoring children's attendance and development is crucial, as is maintaining a safe and healthy environment. The Kids Instructor must be vigilant in overseeing the children, ensuring that they are safe while engaging with toys, sports equipment, and each other. Effective communication is key in this position, as the Kids Instructor utilizes positive behavior management techniques and collaborates with parents and team members to enhance the children's experience. Promoting Junior programming is also an essential responsibility, as it helps to increase participation in all Kids & Aquatics programming. The Kids Instructor is expected to maintain cleanliness in the Kids Academy and other program areas, following a cleaning checklist and restocking supplies as needed. In the event of incidents or emergencies, the Kids Instructor must handle situations calmly and professionally, ensuring the safety and well-being of all children involved.

Responsibilities

  • Greets, acknowledges, and interacts with members and guests in a friendly and professional manner
  • Fosters children's cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development by instructing organized activities in accordance with the Kids Academy Schedule
  • Prepares and sets up for class and transfers kids to and from programming
  • Maintains records of children's attendance, development, and incidents
  • Monitors and interacts with children to maintain a safe and healthy environment with respect to the toys, sports equipment, other children, and surroundings
  • Utilizes positive behavior management techniques and communicates clearly with parents and team members
  • Promotes all Junior programming to increase participation in all Kids & Aquatics programming
  • Maintains the Kids Academy and other program areas by following the cleaning checklist and performing assigned tasks
  • Handles incidents and emergencies in a calm and professional manner

Requirements

  • Less than a High School Diploma or GED
  • Completion of all Kids On-Demand Required Learnings prior to first day of work
  • First Aid certification, Infant/Child and Adult CPR/AED certification required within the first 60 days of hire

Nice-to-haves

  • 6+ months of teaching children ages 3 - 11 in similar programs or activities
  • Ability to engage a group of children in an activity
