About the position

Momentum Academy is a public charter school district located in St. Louis City, dedicated to serving scholars in grades PK-8. The Kindergarten Teacher Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the academic success and character development of kindergarten scholars within the assigned classroom. Under the guidance of the Lead Teacher and Principal, the Teacher Assistant is responsible for creating a nurturing and stimulating environment that fosters learning, growth, and development among young children. This position is essential in promoting academic excellence while ensuring a supportive atmosphere that builds character, confidence, and community among the scholars. The Teacher Assistant will assist the kindergarten teacher in providing a quality, innovative, and engaging learning environment for all children. Responsibilities include supervising the class in the absence of the teacher, enhancing children's development in language, motor, and creative areas, and aiding in the development of social skills through positive guidance. The Assistant will also help maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom, attend to the needs of individual children, and keep up to date with departmental policies. Additionally, the role involves assisting in the planning, preparation, and delivery of lessons, preparing tasks and materials, providing administrative assistance as required, and performing other duties as assigned. Qualified candidates must possess at least 60 college credit hours, a passing score on the ParaPro Assessment or Paraprofessional Assessment, or a Substitute Teaching Certificate. Experience working with students, particularly those with special education needs, is preferred, along with strong organizational skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a tireless work ethic, an entrepreneurial spirit, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Qualified candidates must have at least one of the following: 60 college credit hours, a passing score of the ParaPro Assessment or Paraprofessional Assessment, or a Substitute Teaching Certificate.
  • 1-3 years of experience working with students with special education preferred.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Proven track record of student achievement results.
  • Strong organization, planning, and time management skills.
  • A tireless work ethic, entrepreneurial spirit, and innovative solution finder.
  • Open to feedback and committed to continuously improving.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with students and families in urban communities is a plus.
