About the position

The Kindergarten Teacher is responsible for teaching elementary students academic and social skills in a safe and supervised classroom environment. This role involves preparing lesson plans, evaluating student progress, and fostering cooperative social behavior among students. The teacher will also communicate with parents regarding student performance and behavior, ensuring a positive learning experience for all students.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares for assigned classes and shows evidence of preparation upon request of the immediate supervisor.
  • Develops and maintains a safe and supervised classroom environment conducive to learning and maintains discipline in the classroom and on the playground.
  • Prepares a teaching outline for the course of study, in accordance with state and local curricula guidelines.
  • Uses a variety of teaching strategies and materials.
  • Assigns lessons and corrects papers.
  • Prepares, administers, and corrects tests and records results.
  • Administers diagnostic tests.
  • Evaluates student progress on a regular basis and reports to parents.
  • Keeps attendance and grade records as required by the board of education.
  • Observes students to detect signs of ill health or emotional disturbance and reports as appropriate.
  • Fosters cooperative social behavior.
  • Discusses students' academic and behavior problems with parents and suggests corrective action as appropriate.
  • Reports to the principal any reasonable suspicion that a student's health or welfare has been or appears to have been harmed as a result of abuse or neglect.
  • Attends work regularly and on-time.
  • Meets assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
  • Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops.
  • Represents the school and the community in a positive manner.
  • Complies with board policies, school rules, and administrative regulations.
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Holds a valid Tennessee teacher's license with appropriate endorsement.
  • Strong written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Meets health and physical requirements.
