About the position

The Kindergarten Teacher at Lyons USD 405 is responsible for providing guidance and consistent support to both individual and group needs of young children. The role focuses on developing responsibility, self-control, and instructing children in activities designed to promote their social, physical, and intellectual growth necessary for success in primary school. The teacher will report to the Building Principal and supervise classified personnel as assigned by the administration.

Responsibilities

  • Plans individual and group curriculum/instruction and activities to stimulate growth in learning: language, reading readiness, writing, music, art, math, physical education, science, and social studies.
  • Encourages children to listen to instruction and provides social and motor skills development activities.
  • Provides opportunities for physical, intellectual, social, and emotional growth.
  • Alternates periods of strenuous activity with periods of rest or light activity.
  • Stays alert to emergency situations and takes necessary precautions.
  • Helps children develop habits of caring for their own clothing and personal belongings.
  • Encourages communication and interaction with parents through various means.
  • Networks with sending and receiving teachers to facilitate a positive transition to the next grade level.
  • Interacts with faculty, principal, and community groups for planning curriculum and activities.
  • Supervises assigned personnel.
  • Participates in personal professional growth activities and district inservice programs.
  • Uses various teaching equipment and technology.
  • Maintains a classroom conducive to learning.
  • Prepares activities for public academic, music, and/or art displays/programs.
  • Procures and distributes materials.
  • Assists with supervising bus loading, street crossing, and playground/recess duty.
  • Assists with planning for curriculum and other committees.
  • Reports personnel assessment of paraprofessionals as required.
  • Supports district mission, goals, and objectives.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of child development and basic subjects.
  • Leads, plans, coordinates, and organizes classroom activities.
  • Achieves students' projected curriculum and performance outcomes.
  • Meets all district safety requirements.
  • Has a plan for personal professional growth activities.
  • Prepares students for local, state, and national summative assessments.

Requirements

  • Kansas State Teaching Certificate/Licenses in assigned area(s) of instruction.
  • Highly qualified as defined in the No Child Left Behind Legislation.
  • Ability to convey information to students in a variety of methods.
  • Ability to use technology as an instructional tool.
  • Ability to use appropriate classroom management skills.
