About the position

The Kindergarten Teacher at Detroit Community Schools is responsible for fostering a love for learning and academic development in young students. This full-time position requires a dynamic and dedicated individual who can create engaging lesson plans, utilize technology in instruction, and collaborate with other educators to enhance the learning experience. The teacher will also communicate with parents about student progress and manage classroom behavior effectively.

Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning and align with State of Michigan objectives.
• Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
• Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and adjust teaching strategies accordingly.
• Assist individual students who are behind or struggling to learn content.
• Collaborate with other teachers to develop lesson plans and improve the overall learning process.
• Communicate with students and parents regarding student progress and needs.
• Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
• Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
• Maintain discipline in accordance with the school's rules and disciplinary systems.
• Utilize formative, summative, and interim assessment data to inform daily instruction.
• Create classroom assessments that effectively measure student proficiency levels according to Michigan Academic Standards.

Requirements

• Valid State of Michigan Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsement(s).
• Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree preferred.
• Minimum 3 years of teaching experience.
• Evidence of meeting highly qualified requirements as defined by No Child Left Behind.
• Ability to teach and develop curriculum for assigned grade levels.
