About the position

KIPP Public Schools Northern California is seeking a dedicated and passionate Spanish Teacher for the high school level. This full-time position is designed for an immediate opening and is integral to our mission of providing a joyful and academically excellent education to our diverse student body. As a Spanish Teacher, you will play a crucial role in bringing to life the academic and cultural visions of our schools. This involves daily lesson planning, intentional curriculum design, and regular data analysis to ensure that all students are learning and growing. You will also implement Social Emotional Learning lessons and Restorative Practices to foster a joyful and inclusive classroom community. Collaboration is key in this role, as you will work closely with the school's Leadership Team, including your Instructional Coach, to ensure that students are receiving the best possible education. This includes participating in weekly meetings and receiving ongoing feedback to enhance your instructional practices. KIPP is committed to creating an anti-racist school community, and as a teacher, you will engage in ongoing development to reflect on your own identities and experiences, and how they shape you as an educator. You will regularly analyze school systems, academics, culture, and data to reflect on progress towards being an anti-racist organization and to make necessary changes to address the needs of our community. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching students from similar demographics to those in our KIPP Public Schools Northern California community. You should hold a Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution and meet one of the eligibility requirements for a teaching credential in Spanish or other relevant permits. A strong commitment to the KIPP mission and vision, along with a belief that all students can achieve at the highest academic levels, is essential. You will need to possess strong content area knowledge and the ability to build relationships with students, families, and communities. Proficiency in Google Suite applications and the ability to utilize instructional technology for both in-class and distance learning are also required.

Responsibilities

  • Daily lesson planning and long-term planning using curriculum and resources to align with KIPP's academic vision and goals.
  • Analyze data regularly to identify student academic trends and inform instructional practices.
  • Maintain a positive, warm, inclusive, rigorous, and engaging classroom environment that incorporates Restorative Practices and Social Emotional Learning.
  • Implement culturally responsive classroom management strategies to create a safe environment for all students to learn & achieve.
  • Communicate regularly with staff, students, families, and other key stakeholders to ensure strong partnerships.
  • Attend and engage in weekly Professional Development and other Communities of Practice to continue learning and growing as an educator.
  • Update student records regularly, including attendance, grades, behavior data, etc.

Requirements

  • Hold a B.A/B.S degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Experience as an educator teaching students with similar demographics to our KIPP Public Schools Northern California student community.
  • Hold a valid teaching credential in Spanish, or eligibility for a General Education Limited Assignment Permit, or eligibility for a Provisional Internship Permit, or eligibility for a Short Term Staff Permit.
  • Strong content area knowledge in Spanish language and culture.
  • Strong skills in building relationships with students, families, and communities.
  • Excellent communication skills with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Proficient knowledge of Google Suite applications (Google Classroom, Hangout, Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.).
  • Ability to learn and utilize instructional technology to support in-class and distance learning (i.e. Zoom, Nearpod).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in teaching high school students.
