About the position

As a Kitchen Associate Relief at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional food service to our patients. Your responsibilities will include assisting patients with menu selections and ensuring their dietary needs are met. You will contribute to problem resolution by following up with patients and their families to ensure satisfaction with their meals. This position is essential in maintaining the quality and presentation of food served, as well as ensuring cleanliness and organization in the kitchen and dining areas. In this role, you will be responsible for assembling and delivering food trays according to therapeutic diet guidelines and established presentation standards. You will also deliver food carts to patient care units and return them to the kitchen at designated times. Operating the dishwashing machine and washing specified items by hand, such as pots, pans, and knives, will be part of your daily tasks. Additionally, you will be responsible for disposing of trash and garbage appropriately, mopping floors as scheduled, and performing cleaning duties in various areas, including walk-in refrigerators and freezers. You may also be required to work in different positions on the tray line or in retail areas, preparing and assembling hot and cold food items, such as salads, sandwiches, and desserts, for patients and retail areas. This position requires a commitment to maintaining high standards of food safety and sanitation while providing compassionate service to our patients.

Responsibilities

  • Assists patients with menu selection and problem resolution, including follow-up with patients and families.
  • Assembles and delivers trays per therapeutic diet guidelines and established presentation standards.
  • Maintains tray line in a clean, neat, and organized manner.
  • Delivers food carts to patient care units and returns carts to the kitchen at designated times.
  • Operates dishwashing machine and washes specified items by hand, such as pots, pans, and knives.
  • Disposes of trash and garbage appropriately and as needed.
  • Mops floors as scheduled and as necessary.
  • Performs cleaning duties as assigned, including walk-in refrigerators, walk-in freezers, and storage areas.
  • May work in all positions on the tray line or retail areas, preparing and assembling hot/cold food items and nourishments.

Requirements

  • Ability to communicate effectively with others to facilitate problem solving and interact courteously and respectfully.
  • Ability to explain nutrition-related queries and understand related terms.
  • May coordinate with the dietician on dietary needs.
  • Good listening and communication skills.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak conversational English and understand food service terms.
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to utilize FIFO method and label and date food correctly.
