About the position

The Kitchen Operator IV is responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating, and supervising food service operations at a high school site. This role involves managing food production schedules, leading a team, ensuring compliance with food safety standards, and maintaining high-quality service in a school cafeteria environment.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, coordinate and supervise food service operations at a high school site.
  • Prepare production schedules and assign duties of food service and student staff; assist in the selection and training of assigned staff.
  • Provide direction and collaborate with other Nutrition Services staff to establish objectives and create a high performing, service-oriented team environment.
  • Properly forecast items needed to prepare menus that maintain or increase participation.
  • Lead and participate in large-quantity cooking activities in the preparation of entrees, side dishes and other food; coordinate personnel and activities to assure proper compliance with standardized recipe, menu and meal requirements.
  • Read and interpret standardized menus, recipes, and safe food practices according to HACCP and Santa Clara Unified School District's food service standard operating procedures.
  • Operate a variety of equipment and machines used in a school cafeteria including slicer, grater, mixer, laminator, and a computer terminal.
  • Lead the serving of food to students and staff; participate with food preparation and service as needed; assure compliance with serving size requirements.
  • Estimate and order food quantities, equipment and supplies needed; receive, inspect and verify delivery of food supplies ensuring FIFO.
  • Assure proper cleanliness and maintenance of equipment and supplies used; assure proper temperatures of food storage units, such as freezers, refrigerators and hot boxes.
  • Prepare and maintain a variety of records such as inventory and orders; complete daily menu production records as required.
  • Operate a computer and related software; maintain paperwork.

Requirements

  • Experience in restaurant management or food service operations.
  • High school diploma or GED.
