About the position

The Knowledge Management Attorney will be an integral part of the Knowledge Department at DLA Piper, working closely with Finance partners and leadership to support the practice's knowledge management (KM) needs and initiatives. This role involves formulating, assessing, and updating the KM plan in alignment with the practice's strategy and legal requirements. The attorney will curate and create relevant forms, checklists, and precedents, ensuring that the practice has access to essential substantive content. Additionally, the attorney will identify and summarize pertinent legal, market, and industry developments, capturing key data points to share with the practice and its clients. A significant aspect of this role is to enhance collaboration among attorneys and offices through effective communication strategies, including the development of a content and collaboration page. The attorney will analyze and improve workflow processes to facilitate matter management, leveraging technology solutions such as document automation and data analytics to increase efficiency. Training programs will also be developed and implemented for both internal and client-focused purposes, ensuring that all stakeholders are well-equipped to utilize the KM tools effectively. The Knowledge Management Attorney will act as an ambassador for the Knowledge Department, promoting the value of the KM program and fostering a culture of knowledge sharing within the firm. Participation in KM and practice meetings will be essential to share best practices and contribute to the overall success of the Knowledge Department. The role may require occasional travel and the ability to work beyond scheduled hours as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Formulates and regularly assesses, prioritizes and updates the practice's KM plan with its leadership and partners.
  • Curates, creates, updates and/or makes available relevant forms, checklists, precedents and other substantive content for the practice.
  • Identifies and summarizes relevant legal, market and industry developments on a timely basis.
  • Captures and analyzes market trends and key data points to share with the practice and its clients.
  • Optimizes collaboration between attorneys and offices through practical communications, including through a content & collaboration page.
  • Analyzes, questions and improves workflow processes to facilitate matter management, including through process maps and technology solutions.
  • Improves efficiency of the practice by optimizing technology, including through artificial intelligence-based solutions, document automation and data analytics.
  • Develops and implements training programs for the practice, both for internal and client-focused purposes.
  • Coordinates and oversees other attorneys' targeted KM contributions.
  • Drafts external client alerts and other thought leadership on relevant developments.
  • Collaborates with other business groups, including innovation & IT, professional development, business development & marketing and our international knowledge group.
  • Functions as an ambassador for the Knowledge department to raise the awareness and highlight the value of the firm's KM program.
  • Participates in KM and practice meetings to share best practices in the Knowledge department and the practice.
  • Performs such other duties as requested by the Knowledge department and the practice.

Requirements

  • J.D. from ABA accredited law school.
  • Admission to state bar where licensed to practice.
  • 5 years experience as an attorney in a law firm.
  • Familiarity with relevant legal technologies is a plus.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Advanced proficiency in drafting legal documents & related content and in conducting research.
  • Expert knowledge of the typical workflows and needs of attorneys in the practice.
  • Demonstrated project management skills and the ability to analyze and solve problems in an effective and timely manner.
  • Demonstrated passion for KM, technology, innovation and change.
  • Prior experience as a finance attorney in a law firm, particularly with leveraged finance, structured finance, venture & growth, project finance and/or restructuring experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with artificial intelligence-based solutions.
