Join Gilead and help create possible, together. The Knowledge Management (KM) Manager will manage the approach and process of KM within the Pharmaceutical Development & Manufacturing (PDM) workplace. This role is critical within the PDM Change Leadership team, ensuring that KM activities progress according to process standards by collaborating with team leads and members, as well as with technical and operational departments across PDM. The manager will also contribute to the generation of new KM initiatives aimed at continuously improving operational execution. The position will consist of managing strategic KM processes for capturing and organizing cross-functional technical and operational knowledge and lessons learned, in alignment with the organization's business goals. The KM Manager will develop and manage project timelines for KM activities that are cross-functional, promote KM approaches, facilitate the use of KM processes, monitor overall KM activities for performance and impact, communicate progress to PDM employees and leadership teams, train staff in KM systems and theory, and support the design and enhancement of core KM approaches for critical knowledge flow within the organization. Continuous improvement of KM processes and systems will be a key focus, bringing emerging and innovative tools and technologies into the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Manage strategic KM process and approach for capturing and organizing cross-functional technical and operational knowledge and lessons learned, in alignment with the organization's business goals.
  • Develop and manage project timelines for KM activities that are cross-functional.
  • Promote KM approaches and facilitate the use of KM processes and approaches across the organization through planned change management and communication activities.
  • Monitor overall KM activities for performance and impact by identifying and benchmarking key metrics, and adjust activity plans to maximize the value of the efforts.
  • Communicate progress of KM activities to PDM employees and leadership teams.
  • Train PDM staff in KM systems and theory, as well as process elements, to manage their application of the KM approach and process.
  • Provide KM perspective during the development and execution of other PDM initiatives.
  • Support task execution of KM related activities by employees within the organization.
  • Support the design, implementation, and enhancement of core KM approaches for critical knowledge flow within and across the business and knowledge domains.
  • Improve KM processes and systems continuously, by bringing emerging and innovative tools and technologies into the organization.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of relevant experience and a BA or BS degree. A MA/MBA degree can be substituted for 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Working knowledge in the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Excellent cross-functional collaboration skills to ensure advancement of KM across PDM by interaction with multiple layers of the organization with 3000+ employees.
  • Demonstrated change management experience to implement new processes and programs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills utilizing various media.
  • Good influencing skills to generate enthusiasm for knowledge sharing and transfer and to ensure decision-making and KM approach adoption.
  • Sound negotiation skills and basic conflict resolution skills.
  • Able to manage differences in terms of culture and behavior and bring people together to share knowledge.
  • Able to achieve consensus and collaboration across business units.
  • Explain complex concepts in everyday language.
  • Good project management oversight, focusing on team leadership, meeting management, and scheduling management of KM activities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Operational Excellence or Lean/Six Sigma certification and/or experience in those to allow continuous operational improvement is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint as a user and administrator is a plus.
  • Knowledge of data management software, such as Spotfire, Tableau and advanced skills of Microsoft Excel is a plus.
