About the position

The Knowledge Management Manager at DLA Piper will play a crucial role in supporting the Knowledge Management (KM) needs and initiatives across various practices. This position involves collaboration with KM team members and attorneys to enhance the efficiency of practices through technology and knowledge-sharing. The role is designed for someone who is passionate about KM, technology, and innovation, and who can effectively communicate and manage projects within a legal environment.

Responsibilities

  • Supports Knowledge Management work on existing platforms such as HighQ, Smartsheet, Contract Express and Relativity.
  • Curates and tags content for knowledge banks.
  • Locates and formats documents for project specific uploads (e.g. Sharepoint, HighQ, Relativity).
  • Creates, develops, and maintains trackers to help attorneys stay abreast of key practice developments, including visualizations and updates.
  • Drafts knowledge platform updates, KM newsletters, and other communications.
  • Helps maintain knowledge platform and related materials.
  • Collects and inputs arbitrator, expert, mediator feedback.
  • Supports improved efficiency of the practices by optimizing technology, including through artificial intelligence-based solutions, document automation and data analytics.
  • Collaborates with other business groups, including innovation & IT, professional development, business development & marketing and our international knowledge group.
  • Functions as an ambassador for the Knowledge department to raise the awareness and highlight the value of the firm's KM program, increase engagement and use of the KM tools and information resources, including through training, and encourage a knowledge-sharing culture.
  • Participates in KM and practice meetings to share best practices in the Knowledge department and the practice.
  • Performs such other duties as requested by the Knowledge department and the practice, including working beyond scheduled hours as necessary and occasional travel.

Requirements

  • J.D. from ABA accredited law school and admission to state bar.
  • 2 years experience practicing law in a litigation or transactional practice in a law firm.
  • Familiarity with relevant legal technologies is a plus.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in drafting legal documents & related content and in conducting research.
  • Knowledge of the typical workflows and needs of attorneys in the practice.
  • Demonstrated project management skills and the ability to analyze and solve problems in an effective and timely manner.
  • Demonstrated passion for KM, technology, innovation and change.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with HighQ, Smartsheet, Contract Express, and Relativity.
  • Knowledge of artificial intelligence-based solutions and data analytics.
