About the position

The Knowledge Strategy Lawyer (KSL) at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP is responsible for developing and implementing strategic knowledge management initiatives within assigned transactional practice groups, particularly in Banking and Corporate. The KSL will enhance access to resources, improve workflows, and manage document automation while collaborating with attorneys and stakeholders to meet the knowledge needs of the practice groups. This hybrid role involves creating and maintaining know-how materials, conducting research on legal trends, and leveraging technology to improve legal service delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Assess the knowledge needs of assigned practice groups and develop a plan to meet those needs.
  • Collaborate with the KM group and other relevant parties to implement knowledge management solutions.
  • Draft, maintain, and organize model forms, practice notes, and other substantive content for the practice group.
  • Verify data accuracy within KM systems and ensure compliance with KM taxonomies.
  • Monitor compliance of data collection workflows and evaluate their effectiveness.
  • Develop and maintain designated practice sites and know-how repositories.
  • Research and inform practice groups of legal and market developments and trends.
  • Work with attorneys to leverage existing and emerging technologies to address identified needs.
  • Participate in client pitches and business development activities as required.
  • Create and deliver training programs for practice group attorneys.

Requirements

  • J.D. Degree
  • Minimum of four years of experience practicing law in relevant practices at a large global law firm.
  • Substantive expertise in Banking (required) and Corporate (preferred).
  • Experience in a similar knowledge management role at a large global law firm (preferred).
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with automation tools and AI-enabled due diligence review tools.
  • Strong understanding of KM processes, techniques, and relevant technologies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in corporate law is preferred.
  • Familiarity with legal technology and integration.
  • Experience in drafting thought leadership publications and training materials.
