About the position

Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP (Skadden) is seeking a Knowledge Strategy Lawyer (KSL) to support the development of strategic knowledge management initiatives for assigned transactional practice groups, including Banking and Corporate. The KSL will play a crucial role in identifying the knowledge management needs of the practice groups and implementing solutions to enhance access to substantive resources and improve workflow efficiencies. This position requires collaboration with attorneys and stakeholders to create, develop, and maintain various know-how materials such as research documents, standard forms, model documents, and matter profiles. The KSL will also manage document automation and deploy innovative technology tools to enhance legal service delivery. In this hybrid role, the KSL will work closely with the KM & Practice Innovation group to develop best practices that increase efficiency within the practice groups. Responsibilities include drafting and maintaining model forms, practice notes, and checklists, as well as verifying data accuracy within KM systems. The KSL will monitor compliance with data collection workflows and collaborate with technology groups to develop new processes. Additionally, the KSL will research legal and market developments, assist with client communications, and prepare newsletters for the practice groups. The KSL will also engage in business development activities, working with practice members and marketing groups to identify opportunities for growth. Training and mentorship are key components of this role, as the KSL will create and deliver training programs for attorneys and promote the use of KM resources. Collaboration with attorneys and KM partners is essential to prioritize knowledge management needs and share best practices across practice groups. The KSL will provide regular reporting to practice group leadership and liaise with users of KM resources to gather feedback and improve offerings.

Responsibilities

  • Assess the knowledge needs of assigned practice group(s) and develop a plan to meet those needs aligned with business goals.
  • Collaborate with KM group and other relevant parties to gather attorney feedback and implement knowledge management solutions.
  • Draft, maintain, and organize model forms, practice notes, checklists, and other substantive content for the practice group.
  • Verify data accuracy within KM systems and ensure compliance with KM taxonomies.
  • Monitor compliance of data collection workflows and evaluate their effectiveness regularly.
  • Develop and maintain designated practice sites and know-how repositories, ensuring they are up to date.
  • Research and inform practice groups of legal and market developments and trends.
  • Work with attorneys to leverage existing and emerging technologies to address identified needs.
  • Participate in client pitches and business development activities as required.
  • Create and deliver training programs that meet the training needs of practices.

Requirements

  • J.D. Degree
  • Minimum of four years of experience practicing law in relevant practices at a large global law firm.
  • Substantive expertise in Banking (required) and Corporate (preferred) practices.
  • Experience in a similar knowledge management role at a large global law firm (preferred).
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex ideas effectively.
  • Experience with automation tools and AI-enabled due diligence review tools.
  • Strong understanding of KM processes, techniques, relevant technologies, and best practices.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, organizational, and planning skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in corporate law is preferred.
  • Familiarity with legal technology and integration.
  • Experience in drafting thought leadership publications and training materials.
