About the position

Our client is currently seeking a Kubernetes DevOps/Private Cloud Engineer to join their team. This position is focused on building a version of a public cloud, similar to AWS or Azure, for the client's private use. The goal is to develop and deploy new services effectively. The project is in its critical phase, and the client is looking for engineers who can help bridge the gaps in getting new services ready for production and operating them efficiently in a production environment. The client aims to make a final push towards production readiness, with a target completion date by the end of Q1 2021. This role is essential for ensuring that the infrastructure is robust and scalable, allowing for the seamless deployment of applications and services. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Kubernetes and experience in deploying, tuning, and debugging applications that run on this platform. They will also be responsible for configuring and deploying monitoring and alerting systems for both the applications and Kubernetes itself. The role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a deep understanding of cloud infrastructure, particularly in a private cloud context. The client is looking to hire contractors who can start as soon as possible to contribute to this important project.

Responsibilities

  • Build a version of a public cloud for private use.
  • Develop and deploy new services on the private cloud.
  • Bridge gaps in getting new services ready for production.
  • Operate applications running on Kubernetes in a production environment.
  • Configure and deploy monitoring and alerting for applications and Kubernetes.
  • Tune and debug applications running on Kubernetes.

Requirements

  • Experience deploying, tuning, and debugging applications running on Kubernetes.
  • Experience operating applications running on Kubernetes at scale in a production environment.
  • Experience configuring and deploying monitoring and alerting for applications running on Kubernetes and Kubernetes itself.
  • Familiarity with services such as Ingress, Ingress Controller, and Network Policies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Ansible, Terraform, Istio, Envoy, Nginx, HAProxy, MetalLB, Helm, Rancher, Elastic, Prometheus, Grafana.
