About the position

The Master Control Operator at News 9 plays a vital role in ensuring the quality and compliance of all audio and video transmissions. This position is responsible for operating master control equipment, monitoring broadcast feeds, and maintaining logs to ensure smooth operations in both Oklahoma City and Tulsa. The operator will also respond to emergencies and assist in training new staff, contributing to a collaborative team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Operate master control to ensure quality of audio and video transmissions.
  • Maintain logs and documentation of all broadcast activities.
  • Monitor incoming and outgoing broadcast feeds for quality and compliance.
  • Operate transmitter and transmitter control systems.
  • Follow procedures in case of equipment failure.
  • Monitor tower lights and follow EAS procedures.
  • Execute on-air schedules according to programming requirements.
  • Coordinate with the production team for smooth transitions between live content.
  • Ensure compliance with FCC regulations and company policies.
  • Respond quickly to emergency situations, including severe weather alerts.
  • Assist in training new staff on master control operations.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or equivalent experience in broadcasting, media production, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 1-year prior experience in master control operations preferred.
  • Strong understanding of video and audio signal patterns.
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of computers and electronic equipment operation preferred.
  • Familiarity with FCC regulations and broadcast compliance standards preferred.
