About the position

The L1 Pharmacy Technician position at Shands Hospital involves performing technical and clerical duties that do not require professional judgment within the inpatient pharmacy distribution system. The role is essential for providing comprehensive pharmaceutical services to inpatients, ensuring that all required competencies are completed and assessed within the first six months of employment and annually thereafter.

Responsibilities

• Perform technical and clerical duties in the inpatient pharmacy distribution system.
• Provide comprehensive pharmaceutical services to inpatients of Shands Hospital.
• Complete required competencies within 6 months of start date and at annual evaluations thereafter.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• 6 months of Shands Pharmacy Technician Level 1 experience and completion of all required competencies, or completion of Shands Hospital Technician Training Program, or current enrollment in the program with consent from the program director.
• Completion of Military Hospital Core School and/or Field Service School, or an ASHP accredited Pharmacy Technician Training Program, or a college-based Pharmacy Technician Training Program.
• One year of hospital pharmacy technician experience, retail pharmacy technician experience, or pharmaceutical inventory function experience.
• 12 credit hours of science-based college level study, including successful completion of Algebra, or one year experience transcribing/interpreting physician orders plus 12 credit hours of science-based college level study.
• Active Status as a certified pharmacy technician with PTCB.

Nice-to-haves

• Knowledge of aseptic technique.
• Laminar Air Flow Hood experience.
• Knowledge of repackaging and compounding techniques.
