About the position

The L2 Network Engineer position is a critical role within the IT Infrastructure and Network Systems team, focusing on the design, architecture, and support of network systems that encompass data, voice, and storage solutions. This role is essential for ensuring that the network infrastructure aligns with the strategic business requirements for connectivity, capacity, security, resilience, recovery, and access. The engineer will work with a diverse range of technologies and environments, including multiple data centers and over 450 office locations, utilizing advanced networking solutions such as Cisco ACI/SDN, Nexus switches, and Palo Alto firewalls. The current environment includes a complex setup with Cisco Multi-Site Datacenter ACI/SDN, various Cisco Nexus models, ASR routers, and a robust wireless infrastructure supported by Cisco Enterprise Wireless Controllers. The engineer will also engage with cloud services, specifically AWS and Azure, and will be responsible for implementing and maintaining secure site-to-site VPNs and remote access solutions. The role demands a high level of expertise in traffic engineering, particularly with BGP, and a solid understanding of network security protocols and technologies. In addition to technical responsibilities, the L2 Network Engineer will produce and maintain comprehensive network design policies, specifications, and documentation. They will assess risks associated with network operations and specify recovery routines and contingency procedures. As a subject matter expert in data and voice infrastructure, the engineer will also be expected to communicate effectively with stakeholders and present technical information in a user-friendly manner. This position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to thrive in a high-pressure environment.

Responsibilities

  • L2/3 responsibility for network strategy, architecture, implementation and steady-state support.
  • Produces network design policies addressing connectivity, capacity, interfacing, security, resilience, recovery, access, and remote access.
  • Produces and maintains specifications, topologies, configuration and design documentation.
  • Specifies user/system interfaces, including validation and error correction procedures, processing rules, access, security and audit controls.
  • Assesses associated risks; specifies recovery routines and contingency procedures.
  • Function as subject matter expert for at least one area of data and voice infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Systems and 5 years related work experience or any equivalent combination.
  • Current certifications in networking are required.
  • Experience with traffic engineering using BGP is essential.
  • Experience with AWS/Azure cloud services is required.
  • Experience with Cisco Multi-Site ACI is necessary.
  • Experience with Palo Alto Firewalls & Panorama and/or FortiNet FortiGate Firewalls & FortiManager/FortiAnalyzer is required.
  • Experience with enterprise wireless technology is necessary.
  • Strong understanding of network security and design, including IPSec VPN, TCP/IP, firewalls, IPS/IDS, VoIP, load balancers, routers, and switches is required.
  • Knowledge of Cisco Unified Communications Manager and UCCX is a plus.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certifications in Palo Alto, FortiGate, Citrix NetScaler and related security technologies are preferred.
