About the position

The IV Pharmacy Technician is responsible for performing technical and clerical duties within the inpatient pharmacy distribution system, focusing on sterile compounding and medication management. This role ensures compliance with regulatory standards and supports safe medication distribution to patient care units.

Responsibilities

  • Perform sterile compounding using aseptic technique.
  • Prepare compounded sterile preparations (CSPs) in compliance with USP 797.
  • Manage medication and supply inventory.
  • Distribute medications to patient care units and automated dispensing cabinets.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance in pharmacy operations.
  • Complete all required competencies for Pharmacy Technician Level 1 within 6 months of start date.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • At least one year of hospital or community pharmacy experience preferred.
  • Experience with aseptic technique and sterile compounding preferred.
  • Completion of Military Hospital Core school and/or Field Medical Service school preferred.
  • One year (24 credit hours) of college level study including Algebra, Chemistry, and Biology preferred.
  • Successful completion of all competencies required for Pharmacy Technician Level 1.
  • Ability to lift 30+ pounds.
  • Ability to operate calculator, telecommunication equipment, and computer workstation.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of compounding sterile products and medications.
