About the position

The LA Galaxy Academy is looking for a dedicated Academic Tutor to support students aged 14-18 in their educational journey. This part-time position requires a commitment of 30 hours per week, primarily between 9 AM and 3 PM, Monday through Friday. The tutor will report directly to the Director of Education and will play a crucial role in assisting Learning Coaches with managing the academic needs of high school students enrolled in various subjects, including History, Math, and English. In this role, the Academic Tutor will monitor student progress in online courses, analyze data to identify areas for improvement, and develop both group and individual lesson plans aimed at enhancing student success within the online curriculum. The tutor will also be responsible for creating a classroom environment that mimics a traditional learning setting, thereby supplementing the online learning experience. The position requires the implementation of effective instructional strategies that not only boost student learning but also foster motivation and improve overall academic performance. The tutor will provide students with both online and face-to-face resources to help them meet high school-level standards and will engage with students using diverse strategies tailored to their individual needs. Maintaining a conducive learning environment is essential, and the tutor will be expected to uphold high academic and behavioral expectations, ensuring a rigorous educational experience for all students.

Responsibilities

  • Report to the Director of Education and assist Learning Coaches with managing specific student needs in high school-level courses.

Requirements

  • BA/BS Degree (4-year) in a related field.
  • Experience working with students preferred.
  • Training in mentoring practices.
  • Preferably college coursework in Mathematics, English, and/or Science.
  • Preferably college coursework in Language Arts and/or History.
  • Passion for Math, English, and the learning process.
