About the position

The Senior Data Engineer position at LA Galaxy's Technology and Data team is a critical role focused on sports business innovation. The role involves implementing, maintaining, and enhancing data solutions that support business strategies, improve operations, and elevate fan experiences. The engineer will collaborate with various departments and third parties to manage and link data, ensuring it is usable and current.

Responsibilities

  • Engineer, develop, manage, and monitor ETL (Extract, Transform, and Load) and data pipeline tasks.
  • Lead the development of data models and provide guidance for optimizations and improvements.
  • Perform code reviews for other data engineers within AEG Global Technology.
  • Monitor and remediate data quality issues within AEG sports data warehouses.
  • Design and implement automated custom data visualizations for non-technical users.
  • Implement new statistical or machine learning models for player acquisition and gameplay.
  • Attend team huddles to collaborate on status, techniques, and upcoming projects.
  • Continuously improve knowledge in software and data engineering, statistical learning, and machine learning.

Requirements

  • BA/BS Degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, or Analytics.
  • 4-6 years of related work experience.
  • Demonstrable experience designing, developing, and deploying database structures and extracting data through SQL.
  • Experience on cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in project management techniques, e.g. 'Agile'.
  • Experience with RESTful API development.
  • Experience building statistical models and machine learning models in Python or R.
  • Experience building end-user applications using React, Angular, or Vue.
  • 2-4 years of relatable work experience.
  • Experience with code collaboration software, e.g. git.
  • Prior experience in LLM, NLP, or AI products.
  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Familiarity with hockey and soccer.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary range of $120,000 - $130,000.
