About the position

The Laboratory Department at Mercy Health is seeking a dedicated Phlebotomist to join our growing team at West Hospital in Cincinnati, OH. This full-time position involves working evening shifts and requires a commitment to providing high-quality patient care. The primary responsibility of the Phlebotomist is to draw blood samples from patients, ensuring that all specimens are collected and processed according to established procedures. This role is critical in maintaining the efficiency of the laboratory and ensuring patient safety through accurate identification and handling of specimens. In addition to specimen collection, the Phlebotomist will perform various clerical duties, including order entry, result look-up, and report generation. Excellent customer service skills are essential, as the Phlebotomist will interact with patients and the community, greeting them in a respectful and professional manner. The position also requires answering internal and external calls, providing assistance as needed, and troubleshooting any issues that may arise during the specimen collection process. The ideal candidate will possess a high school diploma or GED, with a preference for those who have completed a Phlebotomy certification program. While one year of phlebotomy experience is preferred, it is not mandatory. Customer service experience in a retail or service environment is also beneficial. The Phlebotomist must be able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, ensuring that all tasks are completed accurately and in a timely manner. This position may require travel to off-site locations as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Draw quality blood samples from patients according to established procedures.
  • Prepare specimens for lab testing and ensure proper processing.
  • Perform order entry, result look-up, and report generation.
  • Answer internal and external calls in a friendly and helpful manner.
  • Provide excellent customer service by greeting patients respectfully.
  • Accurately identify patients and match their identity with the correct service.
  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as requested by test orders.
  • Perform clerical duties such as checking inventory and stocking supplies.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve problems promptly as they arise.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Degree or GED is required.
  • Phlebotomist Certification preferred but not required.
  • One year of phlebotomy experience preferred but not required.
  • Customer service experience in a retail or service environment preferred.
  • Ability to provide quality, error-free work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Engage with staff and patients in a professional manner.
