About The Position

The Lab Management Specialist for the Chemistry and Biochemistry department at Ohio University is responsible for overseeing the storeroom management, including inventory control, chemical handling, and supply procurement for teaching and research labs. This role supports instructional and research needs, ensures compliance with safety regulations, and manages fiscal allocations for faculty. The specialist will also provide technical lab support and assist in training student employees.

Requirements

• Associate's degree in a science or technical field and a minimum of 2 years of laboratory and/or research support experience.
• Valid driver's license.
• Chemical Hygiene Safety Training (provided by OU EHS).

Responsibilities

• Manage the storeroom for Chemistry/Biochemistry, including chemical handling and inventory tracking.
• Ensure safety and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations regarding chemical handling and disposal.
• Store Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and assist in developing standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Direct, train, and supervise student employees working in the storeroom.
• Receive, log, and dispense packages, chemicals, and supplies to teaching and research labs.
• Guide and assist customers with complex questions related to financial and business activities.
• Set up and clean out student lab spaces at the beginning and end of each semester.
• Facilitate the procurement of all goods essential for the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department.
