About the position

The Lab Manager will oversee daily laboratory operations focused on cement, concrete, and aggregate testing. This role is responsible for maintaining laboratory safety practices, ensuring national accreditation compliance, managing lab technicians, and ensuring the functionality of laboratory testing equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, train and support laboratory staff with their routine and non-routine tasks, including analysis of customer service samples and R&D projects.
  • Lead efforts to maintain the functionality of all laboratory equipment, ensuring timely calibrations and service contracts.
  • Maintain laboratory safety at the highest standards according to company guidelines and policies.
  • Manage and lead efforts to maintain AASHTO and ASTM accreditation, including leading CCRL inspections and proficiency testing programs.
  • Provide reports and updates to management regarding project progress and lab status.
  • Assist internal project coordinators and stakeholders with project execution.
  • Coordinate with outside contractors for maintenance of laboratory building and equipment.
  • Prepare various laboratory reports and requisitions for chemicals and supplies.
  • Manage laboratory lean and housekeeping activities, maintaining inventory for all laboratory items.
  • Assist with tracking the laboratory operating budget and preparation of the capital budget.

Requirements

  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Material Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Geology, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in laboratory management.
  • Strong knowledge and experience with cement, concrete, and aggregate materials and testing according to ASTM and AASHTO standards.
  • Minimum 5 years of successful supervisory experience.
  • Strong instrumentation skills and hands-on experience to troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
  • Good understanding of materials characterization tools (XRD, XRF, TGA, etc.).
  • Strong communication skills and ability to motivate and influence others.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Apps, especially Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, and Planner.
