About the position

The Lab Research Analyst I in the Visgauss Lab at Duke University is responsible for conducting a variety of investigations related to experimental procedures within research projects. This role involves performing in vitro and in vivo experiments, managing laboratory techniques, and assisting in the development of new research methodologies. The analyst will also supervise and train lower-level personnel, ensuring compliance with safety standards and data organization.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct a variety of investigations in the planning, development, and implementation of experimental procedures.
  • Perform in vitro experiments using cell culture techniques, drug treatment, and cell behavior assays.
  • Collect information and data through observation and experimentation, operating highly technical laboratory instruments.
  • Help process fresh tissue and maintain the sarcoma biobank.
  • Prepare tissue and specimens for complex procedures and devise experimental techniques for tests and analyses.
  • Evaluate and interpret collected data and prepare reports and analyses.
  • Conduct in-vivo mouse experiments, including drug administration and surgical procedures.
  • Assist in the development of new mouse models and manage breeding colonies.
  • Confer with the principal investigator to determine specific experiments and discuss results interpretation.
  • Review journals and scientific literature to stay updated on new developments.
  • Supervise, train, and instruct residents, interns, students, or lower-level personnel in laboratory techniques.
  • Manage orientation and oversight of trainees, maintain safety standards, compliance, and data organization.
  • Assist with data analysis and visualization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in botany, biology, zoology, psychology, or other directly related scientific field.
  • Two years of research experience, or a related master's degree may offset required years of experience on a 1:1 basis.
