The Lab Research Analyst I position at Duke University School of Medicine involves assisting with various laboratory projects under the direction of the principal investigator. The role requires conducting fundamental gene and protein expression analysis, cell culture, tissue collection, immunochemistry, immunofluorescence, microscopy, and tissue morphometric analysis. The analyst will be responsible for setting up and conducting mouse surgeries and physiology experiments, maintaining laboratory equipment, and training lab personnel in essential skills. Additionally, the analyst will ensure the cleanliness of the lab and support various projects by conducting data quantification and preparing graphs, charts, and figures for scientific publication. The position also entails maintaining a database for raw data and organizing data for analysis by the principal investigator. The analyst will assist with small and short-term basic experiments and complete individual parts of larger experiments or projects. Responsibilities include managing associated paperwork, ordering sufficient inventory of materials, supplies, and equipment, and implementing laboratory safety procedures. The role also involves making stock solutions, culture media, chemicals, and reagents, as well as managing mouse colonies, including breeding, genotyping, and maintaining transgenic mouse colonies using appropriate software. Previous experience with mice is preferred, and a willingness to learn muscle physiology is desired. The ability to work in a diverse team environment is essential. The position requires the analyst to work independently with minimal supervision, setting up and performing standard mouse experiments, analyzing data, preparing reports, and presenting findings at laboratory meetings. The analyst will also be responsible for ordering laboratory supplies, interacting with vendors, and ensuring the overall organization and functionality of the lab. The role includes training other laboratory workers and graduate students in fundamental laboratory techniques and equipment use, as well as maintaining careful laboratory notebooks and organizing raw data for analysis.
