The Lab Research Analyst I position at Duke University School of Medicine involves conducting a variety of investigations in the planning, development, and implementation of experimental procedures within the overall scope of a research project. The role is integral to supporting research-oriented activities and requires a comprehensive understanding of laboratory techniques and procedures. The analyst will perform a variety of technical duties, including conducting physical, chemical, or biological tests and experiments to obtain data that supports the research objectives of the principal investigator. This includes compiling and documenting procedures and results to ensure accurate record-keeping and data integrity. In this role, the analyst will operate laboratory equipment necessary for specific tests and perform laboratory work that supports the research activities of the lab. A significant aspect of the job involves maintaining an animal colony, specifically mice, and performing various laboratory animal handling and surgical skills. This includes administering intraperitoneal and intravenous injections, conducting intracranial tumor implantations, and monitoring animals post-surgery. The analyst will also engage in pharmacokinetic studies, live animal imaging, and in situ brain perfusions, as well as maintaining laboratory animal protocols and collecting tissue samples for research purposes. The position requires strong organizational skills and the ability to exercise judgment in following established practices and procedures. The individual should be proactive in planning and executing daily tasks and should be capable of collaborating effectively with colleagues. Additionally, the analyst may assist in preparing proposals, manuscripts, procedures, and guidelines documents, contributing to the overall success of the research team.
