About the position

The Lab Research Analyst II position in the Kuang Lab at Duke University School of Medicine involves conducting a variety of investigations in the planning, development, and implementation of experimental procedures within the scope of a research project. This role is critical in managing the daily operations of a dynamic group of 10 researchers and overseeing a colony of over 300 cages of research animals. The analyst will coordinate with both internal and external collaborators on research projects and materials transfer, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. In this leadership role, the analyst will work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) to organize task assignments for research group members, evaluating their work for completeness, accuracy, and methodology. The position requires conducting investigations that involve specialized laboratory techniques and the analysis of materials under experimentation. The analyst will collect data through observation and experimentation, operate highly technical laboratory instruments, and prepare tissue and specimens for complex procedures. Additionally, the analyst will evaluate and interpret collected data, preparing reports that outline progress, adverse trends, and recommendations. Maintaining the integrity of the project documentation and research standards is essential, as is managing the transition of processes and workflows as they settle into Duke Research. The analyst will also be responsible for ordering research supplies, maintaining inventory databases, and negotiating services. The role includes reviewing scientific literature to stay updated on new developments and to inform the design of original procedures. The analyst will supervise, train, and instruct residents, interns, students, or lower-level personnel in laboratory techniques and procedures, providing safety and protocol training as needed. Other related duties may be assigned as necessary.
