About the position

The Laboratory Research Analyst II position at Duke University School of Medicine involves conducting a variety of complex and independent investigations as part of the Ferrari Lab. This role is crucial in the planning, development, and implementation of original experimental procedures within the scope of various research projects. The analyst will be responsible for utilizing specialized laboratory techniques to analyze materials under experimentation, ensuring that the research objectives are met effectively and efficiently. In this position, the analyst will collect information and data through observation and experimentation, which includes operating highly technical laboratory instruments and equipment. The preparation of tissue and specimens for complex procedures is a key responsibility, along with devising experimental techniques for tests and analyses. The analyst will evaluate and interpret the collected data, preparing comprehensive reports that outline progress, adverse trends, and appropriate recommendations or conclusions based on the findings. Collaboration is a significant aspect of this role, as the analyst will confer with the principal investigator to develop research project plans and discuss the interpretation of results. Additionally, the preparation of scientific manuscripts for publication will be part of the responsibilities. Staying updated with the latest developments in the field is essential, which involves reviewing journals, abstracts, and scientific literature to aid in the design and development of original procedures and techniques. Moreover, the analyst will have supervisory responsibilities, including training and instructing residents, interns, students, or lower-level personnel in laboratory techniques and procedures. This position is integral to the research team, contributing to the advancement of scientific knowledge and the improvement of human health.

Responsibilities

• Conduct a variety of complex and independent investigations in the planning, development, and implementation of original experimental procedures.
• Collect information and data through observation, experimentation, and various other methods, including operating highly technical laboratory instruments and equipment.
• Prepare tissue and specimens for complex procedures and devise experimental techniques for tests and analyses.
• Evaluate and interpret collected data and prepare reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends, and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.
• Confer with the principal investigator in developing plans for research projects and to discuss the interpretation of results and the preparation of scientific manuscripts for publication.
• Review journals, abstracts, and scientific literature to keep abreast of new developments and to obtain information regarding to aid in the design and development of original procedures and techniques.
• Supervise, train, and instruct residents, interns, students, or lower-level personnel in laboratory techniques and procedures.
• Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in botany, biology, zoology, psychology, or other directly related scientific field.
• Four years of research experience, or a related master's degree or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience may offset required years of experience on a 1:1 basis.
