About the position

The Laboratory Section Head is responsible for managing a specific laboratory department, conducting laboratory tests, and ensuring optimal patient care through accurate and timely laboratory results. This role involves overseeing laboratory operations, maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements, and fostering a teamwork environment among staff. The position emphasizes the importance of patient safety, quality control, and effective communication with healthcare professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a specific laboratory department and conduct laboratory tests for diagnosis, prevention, or treatment of diseases.
  • Promote the mission, vision, and values of Williamson Health.
  • Participate in hospital initiatives and departmental goals set by the Laboratory Director.
  • Interact professionally with laboratory management, personnel, physicians, and patients.
  • Maintain laboratory safety precautions and adhere to OSHA and TOSHA regulations.
  • Perform high-complexity testing and notify nursing/physicians of critical lab values.
  • Responsible for instrument calibrations, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Perform quality control as outlined by departmental procedures.
  • Manage operations including training, competency, process improvement, and inventory.
  • Communicate timely regarding laboratory issues with nursing and physicians.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, or equivalent.
  • Valid State of Tennessee Medical Technologist license.
  • State of Tennessee Supervisor's license (must obtain within a year).
  • Minimum of four years laboratory experience.
  • Management experience preferred.
  • Meditech experience preferred.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple responsibilities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of laboratory compliance regulations.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records systems.
