About the position

The Laboratory Section Head at Munson Healthcare Manistee Hospital is responsible for overseeing the technical operations and workflow of one or more laboratory sections, including Blood Bank, Chemistry, Hematology, Histology, and Microbiology. This role involves ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, drafting and implementing laboratory policies, and performing various laboratory tests. The Section Head also provides technical guidance to laboratory associates and participates in quality control and equipment maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Oversee technical operations and workflow in laboratory sections.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory and accrediting standards.
• Draft, review, and implement laboratory policies and procedures.
• Organize tests and prepare instruments for testing.
• Conduct clinical laboratory tests using automated and semi-automated equipment.
• Calculate test results and confirm abnormal results with appropriate personnel.
• Record and report test results according to policies and procedures.
• Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment and troubleshoot issues.
• Assist with specimen collection and inventory management.
• Train and orient new laboratory associates.

Requirements

• Completion of two years of advanced technical training (MLT) or a bachelor's degree in medical technology (MT).
• Minimum of five years of experience in a CLIA licensed laboratory.
• Certification by ASCP or other recognized national certification for medical laboratory personnel.
• Analytical ability to interpret and analyze test results.
• Ability to perform calculations and calibrate instruments.
• Manual dexterity and visual acuity for specimen preparation and examination.
• Knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations.
