About the position

The Lab Specimen Processor PRN position at Norton System Services involves the critical task of admitting patients and processing specimens in the appropriate Laboratory Information System (LIS). This role is essential in ensuring that all specimens are accurately identified and labeled, adhering to strict policies regarding specimen rejection when necessary. The processor will operate the pneumatic tube system to prioritize specimens, distinguishing between routine and stat samples, and will be responsible for centrifuging and aliquoting specimens based on the tests ordered. Accuracy in labeling all tubes and delivering specimens to the correct laboratory areas is paramount, as is the proper storage of all specimens to maintain their integrity. In addition to specimen processing, the Lab Specimen Processor will communicate test results to physicians and fax results upon request, ensuring timely and effective communication within the healthcare team. Compliance with all regulatory and infection control guidelines is a critical aspect of this role, as is the performance of phlebotomy, morgue duties, and conducting waived or moderately complex testing as needed and approved by the Medical Director. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about patient care and are eager to learn in a supportive environment, with comprehensive on-the-job training provided for those without prior experience.

Responsibilities

  • Admits patients and processes specimens and orders in appropriate LIS system.
  • Ensures proper patient identification and labeling of all specimens or rejects specimens according to policy.
  • Operates the pneumatic tube system and prioritizes specimens into routine and stat.
  • Centrifuges and aliquots specimens according to tests ordered.
  • Accurately labels all tubes and delivers specimens to laboratory areas.

Requirements

  • No experience required; comprehensive on-the-job training provided.
  • High School Diploma or GED.

Nice-to-haves

  • One year in a clinical laboratory.
