About the position

The Lab Technician position at Kelly Services involves supporting product development in the food industry, specifically focusing on ready-to-mix formulations. This role is crucial for executing lab and pilot plant activities, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and maintaining effective communication within the team. The technician will engage in various tasks including ingredient management, documentation, and equipment maintenance, contributing to the overall success of product development projects.

Responsibilities

  • Execute workflows and testing of bench top and pilot line activities to support multiple product development projects.
  • Ensure adherence to Lab Safety Plan, Food Safety Plan, and all EHS requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with product developers and lab team members regarding inventory needs.
  • Maintain an inventory of hazardous materials, ensuring proper labeling and documentation.
  • Manage storage and shipment of shelf-life samples and ingredients.
  • Learn and execute workflows with ingredients and conduct independent testing in compliance with food safety plans.
  • Set up, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot lab/pilot line equipment.
  • Maintain inventory management system for pilot plant parts and supplies.
  • Support shipping and receiving of samples to/from various sites and personnel.
  • Maintain sanitation and organization of lab and/or pilot line areas.
  • Complete lab and/or pilot line documentation including ingredient/sample records and lab notebooks.
  • Conduct analytical measurements and support lab activities as assigned for food scientists.
  • Provide insight into processing parameters for equipment and safety requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Chemistry, Food Science, Food Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or similar disciplines.
  • 1+ years of experience in the food industry.
  • Strong technical knowledge to solve complex problems and evaluate options.
  • Ability to work in pilot processing and troubleshoot lab equipment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Solid understanding of food industry standards for quality and regulatory compliance.
