About the position

The Lab Technician I at Medtronic plays a crucial role in providing technical support across various domains including production, operations, maintenance, safety, testing, process improvement, and product development. This position is essential for ensuring that the laboratory functions efficiently and effectively, contributing to the overall mission of championing healthcare access and equity. The technician will utilize schematics, diagrams, and both written and verbal instructions to perform testing and troubleshooting on electronic or mechanical components, equipment, or systems. This role requires a meticulous approach to gathering, maintaining, formatting, compiling, and manipulating technical data using established formulas and procedures, as well as performing detailed mathematical calculations. As the technician gains experience, they may also suggest and implement improvements to optimize work processes, thereby enhancing productivity and quality within the lab environment. In this full-time position, the Lab Technician I will be expected to perform a variety of technical procedures, including the preparation of routine solutions and reagents, as well as conducting routine reactions. The technician will make and record observations, perform simple calculations, and collect and prepare data for evaluation. Additionally, the role involves conducting laboratory support functions such as stocking and distributing supplies and equipment, arranging and dismantling apparatus, and collecting, washing, and storing glassware. The technician will also be responsible for performing technical and record-keeping duties in compliance with company and regulatory policies and standards to meet quality and accuracy requirements. Depending on the needs of the organization, the technician may analyze compounds and manage the corporate compound collection, as well as perform technical procedures in areas such as Production, Research and Development, Quality Control/Assurance, and Compliance/Environmental.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of technical procedures such as preparing routine solutions and reagents and performing routine reactions.
  • Make and record observations; perform simple calculations; and collect and prepare data for evaluation.
  • Conduct laboratory support functions such as stocking and distributing supplies and equipment; arranging and dismantling apparatus; and collecting, washing, and storing glassware.
  • Perform technical and record keeping duties in conformance with company and regulatory policies and standards to meet quality and accuracy requirements.
  • Analyze compounds and manage corporate compound collection as needed.
  • Perform technical procedures in one or more of the following areas: Production, Research and Development, Quality Control/Assurance, and/or Compliance/Environmental.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED and 0 years of experience required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to exercise some product QC judgment and to recognize QC problems.
  • Good hand-eye coordination.
  • Able to differentiate colors.
  • Available for extended work hours including weekends if needed to meet production requirements.
  • Familiarity with QC lab operation and information flow.
  • Experience using different lab equipment such as Differential Scanning Calorimeters (DSC), Viscometer, (UV) spectroscopy.
  • Experience working in a regulated field such as medical laboratory, pharmaceutical, healthcare or biology.
