About the position

The Lab Technician at GENESIS Health System is responsible for the proficient procurement of blood samples and the processing of various laboratory tests. This role involves utilizing the Laboratory Information System for managing laboratory orders, educating patients on specimen collection, and ensuring the integrity of samples for testing. The technician will work in a fast-paced environment, collaborating with healthcare professionals to provide quality patient care while adhering to the health system's standards.

Responsibilities

• Procure blood samples using venous and capillary techniques from patients of all ages.
• Utilize the Laboratory Information System for activating, ordering, and resulting laboratory orders.
• Educate patients on proper specimen collection methods for urine, stool, and sputum.
• Review and maintain accuracy in laboratory test orders from providers, including making calls to obtain necessary orders.
• Process specimens appropriately, including centrifuging, separating, and storing samples to maintain integrity.
• Prepare specimens for transfer to reference laboratories, ensuring timely processing and transport of STAT specimens.
• Perform waived and moderately complex CLIA testing in hematology, urinalysis, and serology under supervision.
• Maintain accurate records for temperature monitoring, quality control, and laboratory maintenance.

Requirements

• Certified Phlebotomy Technician certification.
• BLS Certification.
• High school diploma or GED.
• 1 year of experience in a related field.

Nice-to-haves

• Medical Assistant certification or other healthcare studies qualifications.
