About the position

The Lab Technician position involves preparing and testing samples, performing analytical testing, and maintaining laboratory equipment. The role is essential for ensuring product quality and compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The technician will work in a collaborative environment, supporting production processes and maintaining accurate records of testing procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare process and finished product samples; perform analytical testing using instrumental and wet chemistry procedures.
  • Perform daily process monitoring tests throughout the plant as assigned.
  • Maintain samples of tested product to confirm test results if necessary.
  • Document results of all testing procedures and promptly notify operations of required adjustments.
  • Enter and report data using a Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
  • Understand production processes and make recommendations to operators to achieve product quality.
  • Perform light maintenance and calibration on all laboratory equipment.
  • Maintain ongoing records of testing procedures and input data into the computer daily.
  • Maintain adequate supplies for testing procedures and notify the supervisor when re-ordering is needed.
  • Compare equipment readouts with standard samples to ensure accurate system operation.
  • Maintain a clean working area and wash equipment as required.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees.
  • Perform duties safely, utilizing approved safety equipment and completing all safety certification requirements.
  • Adhere to FDA, GMP, BATF, EPA, OSHA, and employer standards and guidelines.

Requirements

  • 2 or more years of science degree preferred.
  • Good attendance history.
  • Excellent safety record and awareness.
  • Sufficient computer skills to utilize lab instrument operation programs.
  • Familiarity with current commercial software applications (Excel, Word).
  • Experience with lab documentation and operating standard lab equipment (i.e., pH meter, balances, and spectrophotometer).
  • Sufficient math skills to perform calculations associated with lab testing.
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks and team build.
  • Good organizational skills and willingness to learn new responsibilities.
  • Excellent communication skills and proven housekeeping and sanitation skills.
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting skills and accurate record-keeping skills.
  • Attendance and punctuality are essential.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and be on your feet for extended periods.
